The United States has unveiled a new $7.9 billion military aid package for Ukraine, a move confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who expressed his
deep appreciation for the continued support from American leadership.
"I am grateful to U.S. President Joe Biden, the U.S. Congress, both parties – Republicans and Democrats, and the entire American nation for today's announcement of significant defense assistance totaling $7.9 billion. This includes additional sanctions against Russia," Zelensky said.
He stressed that the aid would be used efficiently and transparently to achieve Ukraine's key goals: victory, justice, lasting peace, and ensuring transatlantic security.
President Biden confirmed the aid package in a statement on the White House's website, stating that he had instructed the Pentagon to allocate the remaining security assistance funds for Ukraine by the end of his term.
"As part of this effort, the Department of Defense will allocate the remaining Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds by the end of this year. I have also authorized $5.5 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority to prevent its expiration, allowing my Administration to fully utilize the funding appropriated by Congress to support the transfer of U.S. equipment to Ukraine and replenish U.S. stockpiles," Biden explained.
For the first time, the aid package will include high-precision Joint Standoff Weapons (JSOW) with a range of up to 130 km.
Additionally, to strengthen Ukraine's air defense, the U.S. Department of Defense will repair and provide an extra battery of Patriot surface-to-air missile systems, along with the necessary missiles.
The U.S. is also expanding its support for training Ukrainian pilots, with plans to train 18 more F-16 pilots next year.
President Zelensky emphasized the strong alliance between Ukraine and the United States, highlighting their shared commitment to defending freedom, human lives, and broader security in Europe and beyond.
"We have always valued the strong bipartisan support in the United States and among Americans for Ukraine's just struggle against Russian aggression," Zelensky said.
