Trump Says Vietnam Open to Cutting Tariffs in Future Deal

Former President Trump posted on Truth Social today, announcing a "very productive call" with To Lam, the General Secretary of Vietnam's Communist Party.

According to Trump, Lam expressed interest in reducing Vietnam's tariffs to zero—provided the two countries can reach a trade agreement. "I thanked him on behalf of our country, and said I look forward to meeting in the near future," Trump said.

This development comes shortly after Trump unveiled plans to impose steep tariffs on several nations, with Vietnam facing a proposed 46% rate—one of the highest.

Earlier today, reports indicated that Vietnam had requested a three-month delay on the tariffs to allow time for further negotiations. A statement on the Vietnamese government’s website also noted the country’s commitment to increasing purchases from the U.S.
