Fox Host Presses Trump on Ukraine’s Survival Amid War with Russia

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo questioned former President Donald Trump on whether he is “comfortable” with the possibility that Ukraine may not endure its ongoing conflict with Russia.

During an interview on Sunday Morning Futures, Bartiromo brought up concerns expressed by Polish President Andrzej Duda, who has voiced doubts about Ukraine’s ability to survive the war.

“Are you comfortable with that? The fact that you walked away, and Ukraine may not survive?” she asked.

Trump responded bluntly: “Well, it may not survive anyway. But, you know, we have some weaknesses with Russia. It takes two. Look, that war wasn’t going to happen, and it happened. So now we’re stuck with this mess.”

Trump’s handling of Ukraine has raised alarm internationally.

A tense meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly ended in shouting, leading to the collapse of a rare earth mineral agreement that had been tied to ceasefire negotiations. Meanwhile, Trump administration officials have been in discussions with Russian leaders in pursuit of a resolution—effectively sidelining Ukraine in the process.

European leaders reacted with concern, scrambling to chart a path forward without direct U.S. involvement, even as Trump administration officials suggested a resolution might still be possible.

Bartiromo further pressed Trump on his administration’s approach, asking whether his team was treating Russia and Ukraine equally.

“I think so,” Trump replied.

“Are you favoring one over the other?” she asked.

“They’re very different places, OK? Very, very different,” Trump said. “You’re talking about different levels of power. You’re talking about different parts of the world.” Photo by Kyiv City State Administration, Wikimedia commons.
