OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed leader in artificial intelligence, has introduced ChatGPT Gov, a specialized version of its AI chatbot designed for U.S. government agencies, according to a blog
post on Tuesday.
This new offering allows government entities to deploy ChatGPT Gov on their own Microsoft Azure commercial cloud, granting access to many advanced features available in ChatGPT Enterprise, including customizable GPTs.
The announcement closely follows a statement by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who revealed plans to expedite some upcoming releases. His comment on X (formerly Twitter) marked his first public response after Chinese AI startup DeepSeek disrupted the market on Monday, shaking up AI-related stocks.
DeepSeek, which Altman referred to as OpenAI's "new competitor," has made waves in the AI ecosystem. Its free AI assistant recently surpassed ChatGPT in downloads on Apple’s App Store, signaling a shift in user preference.
This development has heightened scrutiny from investors in U.S. tech giants, who have committed billions of dollars to expanding AI capabilities, as the competition in the AI space continues to heat up. Photo by Jernej Furman from Slovenia, Wikimedia commons.
