On Wednesday, former California Governor and iconic action star Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for U.S. president, emphasizing his commitment to
America over party lines: "I will always be an American before I am a Republican."
Schwarzenegger, known for roles in "The Terminator" and "Predator," said he was deeply troubled by Republicans who refuse to accept Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election. He also condemned the Republican nominee's recent remarks comparing America to "a garbage can for the rest of the world."
Reflecting on his time in office, Schwarzenegger shared his disillusionment with the political landscape. “I learned to love policy and hate politics," he said, adding, "I hate politics more than ever." He voiced dissatisfaction with both parties, citing their lack of focus on the U.S. budget deficit and his concerns that some Democratic policies were contributing to rising crime.
Despite his frustration, Schwarzenegger stressed he couldn't remain silent. “Rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets,” he wrote. “And calling America ‘a trash can for the world’ is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious.”
The former governor continued, “That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.” His statement joins a chorus of Hollywood voices supporting Harris.
This latest endorsement follows comments made by Trump, who referred to the U.S. as a "garbage can" while criticizing the Biden/Harris administration’s handling of the U.S.-Mexico border, alleging it allows other countries to "dump people they don't want" into America.
Schwarzenegger, an Austrian immigrant, rose to fame as a champion bodybuilder and a Hollywood heavyweight before governing California from 2003 to 2011.
