On Tuesday night, People magazine announced John Krasinski as its 2024 "Sexiest Man Alive" during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Krasinski, an actor, writer, and director, accepted the
title with humor and grace, jokingly hoping his wife, actress Emily Blunt, follows through on a promise to use the magazine cover as wallpaper in their home.
Krasinski, known for his breakout role as Jim Halpert in The Office, later transitioned into a successful action star with his portrayal of Jack Ryan and gained critical acclaim with the suspenseful A Quiet Place franchise, which he co-wrote, directed, and starred in.
Colbert humorously set the stage for the announcement, quipping that he was “sure” this year would be his turn. “I really thought this was gonna be my year,” he joked, before playfully resigning, “Who are we kidding? I’m never gonna be the Sexiest Man Alive.”
In a comedic sketch with Colbert, Krasinski introduced his "6-step program" to achieving peak "sexiness," adding a playful twist to the reveal. At 45, Krasinski admitted to People that his initial reaction was “just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” adding that he half-expected the title to be a practical joke.
Since his days as the lovable, laid-back Jim on The Office, Krasinski has taken on diverse roles, including his transformation into the clean-cut, rugged Jack Ryan, a role previously held by stars like Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford. Beyond acting, he made a significant mark in the film world with A Quiet Place, which has since grown into a trilogy, and also created the popular web series Some Good News during the pandemic.
This year, he directed his sixth film, IF, a story about imaginary friends that features Blunt among its cast. The couple shares two daughters, and Krasinski joked to People that this new honor might come with a price. “I think it’s going to make me do more household chores,” he quipped.
In its 40-year history, People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” title has gone to notable figures such as Mel Gibson, the first recipient, along with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John F. Kennedy Jr., David Beckham, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Rudd, and Pierce Brosnan. Photo by Prime Video AU & NZ, Wikimedia commons.
